April, 2013 - Spring!

Happy April, all!

I enjoy this time of year.  The snows have mostly melted (at least for now), sending little streams of meltwater down the gutters, and revealing patches of green (but mainly brown) and the hidden detritus of the last few months. Days are visibly longer, and the Sun is about to emerge during our early morning commutes. The Canada geese (those who didn’t stick around) are returning, their honking welcoming the new season. And even though “April showers” here often mean snow showers, it feels like things are about to start moving again.

For those who have been following Margarian’s continuing saga, she’s been moved from the hospital to an extended care facility, and will shortly be resuming rehab. A mixed blessing; since she’s in the dialysis ward, she’s in among the long-term residents, which doesn’t help her morale much. But I’ve been visiting her frequently to play Carcassonne, Rivals of Catan, and Ticket to Ride with her, and there are a number of handicraft and social activities she can also enjoy. Visitors are welcome; any evening other than Monday and Thursday are best.  Now, if I can only empty the garage sufficiently to install one more stair lift, she can have some access to the house. She’s really homesick.

There’s still time to register for Evergreen’s Ritual Leadership Workshop the weekend of Apr. 5-7 in NW Calgary. Contact me if you’re interested.

The Calgary Rock and Lapidary Club’s annual Rock and Gem Show has moved out of Hillhurst-Sunnyside this year. Instead it will be in Cardel East Arena in Country Hills the first weekend in May.

Congratulations this month go out to Samuel Wagar and the Congregationalist Witchcraft Assembly of Alberta, who recently obtained clergy credentials for members of its groups in Edmonton and Red Deer.

April Birthdays:  Amanda B., Sherry M., Sheena Mac, MaryBeth, Ayanna, Janice T., and probably some of my Facebook friends.  Happy Birthday, everyone! Let me know if I’ve missed yours.
