Peek-A-Boo Sun
Happy March, everyone.
At this latitude, for the next week or so we experience what I like to call the “false dawn”. For morning commuters, the Sun finally pokes its disc above the horizon, giving us even more hope that spring is on its way. Then Daylight Savings Time sets in, and the Sun plunges back below the horizon, although the evenings are proportionately brighter and longer. Still I can’t help feeling a little bit cheated.
So what’s the lesson here? The Cynic says that all hope is temporary and illusory. The Zen Master says “so is everything else.” The Libertarian says the government shouldn’t meddle in the affairs of nature. I prefer to think that this means change – and the fulfilment of hope – sometimes comes from unexpected directions.
